Introduction Due to your current chairman
and editor taking a well earned holiday, it has fallen to me to write the
newsletter this month. I apologise if it does not contain all the snippets of
race info as usual but I can only include what I am sent and aware of from
results etc.
Volunteer Awards: May I first start by
congratulating John Driscoll in receiving club volunteer of the year award at
the UKA conference. In addition West Cheshire ac were recognised for their
achievements as junior athletic club. Both are thoroughly deserved. In some
small way this highlights the tremendous amount of work that volunteers in a
large number of clubs carry out on a weekly basis.
T&F Events: Please be aware that entries
for the county clubs championships must be in this week!
The closing date is the 29th. April The entry form is still on the
www.cheshireaa.com website.
Also the deadline for the N of EAA T&F championships is fast approaching. The
closing date for u/15, u/17s, and u/20s is next Wed the 4th May , while for the
seniors the closing date is the 25th May. Entry forms are available on
www.noeaa-athletics.org.uk
Some other reminders; the schools T&F championships are on Sat 11th June and you
must first qualify through your district events.
The Cheshire youth games are on the Sat.25th June and this year are restricted
to school years 5 &6 for athletics.
The clubs track relays are on Sun 3th July, and John Driscoll has already
produced the timetable and entry form , again available on the Cheshire website
with entries to jld@sunnyfield.co.uk
Road race matters. The fourth race in the
seven race series has now been completed with full results available via Adrian
Thiemicke. The position remains the same I understand with Wilmslow leading the
mens’ section, and the womens’ being closely contested by Wilmslow and
Macclesfield. The next race is the Christleton5k on the 13May, entries close

Coaching The local coaching courses
remain as before booking thro Tony Airnes at tairnes@ukathletics.org.uk This is
currently now the quiet time of the year , new courses will be available in the
autumn, so if you want to go on one or host one then please contact Tony Airnes.
Coaches are reminded to get their licences renewed and that clubs have been
asked to appoint a verifier to check forms and documents prior to them being
sent off for CRB disclosure checks.
Welfare and Medical Two new documents
have been published by UKA.
The welfare and child protection policy and procedures, and the clubs medical
resource pack should have been received by all affiliated clubs.
Clubs are reminded of their general obligation in respect of these documents and
that in particular their application forms ask for any relevant prevailing
medical conditions
Officials Another well attended H&S
workshop has taken place with 18 people present . Attention was paid to the
analysis of incidents and accidents. Suffice it to say they are not being fully
reported. Just as many incidents occur at training session as competitions,
Track accidents, particularly at the finish area are more frequent than field
event accidents, but those in the field can be more serious. All clubs are
encouraged to operate safely, and to report all accidents and incidents that
would normally have required hospital treatment to UKA
Other News Items.
Facilities There will be a facilities managers course at
Macclesfield on Tues 24th May, dealing with all aspects of maintenance and
management. To attend contact Dave Young at UKA.
Cheshire Challenge Leonie Lightfoot of
Sport Cheshire will be running a scheme to encourage participation of u/17
athletes by awarding points throughout the season based on athletes scoring
points at selected events . Please see the Sport Cheshire website for more
details or as an attachment to the April ccaa minutes.
County Championship Medals It is proposed
to change and improve the quality of medals offered by the county for all county
championship events. Some initial examples are available for comment. See me at
the county championships.
