CHESHIRE COUNTY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
REPORT FROM THE VICE CHAIRMAN
In the absence of a chairperson of the association, I have happily acted in that capacity during the past twelve months, mainly chairing the monthly committee meetings.
I will be pleased to continue as the vice chairman if there is no other person nominated for that position. During the year the county has sustained its stable establishment, and I wish to express my thanks and admiration to the officers and members of the committee for their dedicated hard work for the county, and as a consequence, the well being of the clubs and members affiliated to the association. As is the norm, we are still looking for those extra faces to attend the committee meetings.
February 2007 The county once again staged very successful championships during the year, and was approached by other bodies to combine our track and field championships with other counties in the North West, which we declined, but offered to stage the not very well supported events within our championships. This idea is as yet in the melting pot, but there is a move to stage a North West championships during the coming season, this also is still in the planning stage.
County athletes were again well represented in regional and national events, and on behalf of the committee I would like to congratulate them and their coaches.
I wish to thank the team managers who looked after the interests and welfare of our selected athletes at the regional championships.
The new editor of the newsletter is Ellen Molloy, who has maintained the standard of the information and reports, but Ellen is still asking for items from anyone who has something to say, to send them to her.
At the behest of UK Athletics, the county had a “recruitment drive” to get established competition officials and volunteers and race organisers licenced as “endurance” officials. The response was quite good, and we now have many more people on the UKA list.
The new order of things, England Athletics and Northern Athletics are more or less functioning, and we now await for the dust to settle, to see what the future holds for the county.
To all affiliated clubs, their athletes, coaches, and volunteers I send my best wishes for a successful year.
The county is again grateful for the use of facilities of the Frodsham IFTA office.

The Future :
At an EGM on 17 February, clubs in the North of England voted to replace the North of England AA by Northern Athletics with effect from 1st April 2007. The remit of Northern athletics is to organise and promote competition at Northern level such as Championships. This almost completes the transition to the new structure for athletics in England.
As a result of this change any enquiries about athletics (except for Northern championships) should be addressed to the North West Regional Office at Sport City in Manchester (the base for the regional Manager, Michael Hunt) and not to the previous NoEAA office in Dewsbury.
