 Pre 1974 - Cheshire includes the Wirral in the west of the County and places such as Stockport, Hyde, Stalybridge, Cheadle, Bramhall and Altrincham in the northeast of the County.  The Manchester Ship Canal defined the boundary between Cheshire and Lancashire.

1884 - Warrington Harriers formed

1896 - Macclesfield Harriers & AC formed

1902 - Warrington Harriers changes to Warrington Harriers & AC, renamed Warrington AC in the 1950's

1947 - Macclesfield Harriers & AC Re-formed post WWII

1950's - Cinder track laid at Victoria park, Warrington

1967 - Chester & District AC Formed

1972 - Frodsham Harriers formed

197? - Winsford AC formed

1974 - Crewe & Nantwich AC formed

1974 - Local government re-organised and many boundaries were redrawn.   The Wirral became a metropolitan borough in Merseyside.  Many places in the northeast of the county also became metropolitan boroughs within Greater Manchester.   However Runcorn and Warrington became borough councils in Cheshire.

1975 - Chester & District AC and Ellesmere Port AC merged to form CEPAC

1976 - Indoor Sportshall started

1977 - Warrington Road Runners club formed

1977 - Ellesmere Port & Neston AC reformed

1980 - 7 lane track built at Cumberland Stadium, Crewe

1980's - Cinder track replaced by 6 lane synthetic track at Victoria park, Warrington

1982 - Cheshire Hash house harriers formed

1982 - Tattenhall Runners club formed

1983 - Spectrum Striders Runners club formed

198? - Cheshire Cross Country League started

1984 - Congleton Harriers formed

1986 - South Cheshire Harriers formed as road running break away group from Crewe & Nantwich AC

1987- Rivacre Runners & Joggers formed

1987-Synthetic track laid in Woodbank Park Stockport after a joint campaign by Stockport Harriers & Manchester Harriers

?1987  - Mens & Womens Cheshire County AA combined (CMAAA & CWAAA)

1988 - 1st Combined Mens & Womens Cheshire Track & Field Championships

1992 - Current CCAA formed in response to the requirement by the new North of England Athletic Association for ALL athletics to be administered locally by County District Committees. The constitution of the previous Cheshire County Athletic Association was modified to take on its new delegated role as well as the previous role of organising County Championship events in all disciplines of athletics.

1994 - Mid Cheshire AC and Winsford AC merged to form Vale Royal AC

1995 - Fire destroys stand at Warrington track

199? - Cheshire Track & Field league started

1998 - Chester & Ellesmere port AC (CEPAC) and Whitby Heath AC merged to form West Cheshire AC

1998 - In April Warrington and Halton (which covers Widnes and Runcorn) became unitary councils separate from the administrative county of Cheshire in terms of local government service provision. Cheshire still covers from Neston in the west to Disley in the northeast, Alsager in the southeast, and from Audlem and Malpas in the south to High Leigh and Frodsham in the north.

1998 - Warrington track extended to 8 lanes and new stand built with indoor training facilities

1999 - 8 lane track built at Macclesfield Leisure Centre, Macclesfield

1999 - Frodsham Harriers renamed to Halton & Frodsham AC

1999 - Cheshire Ladies AC formed as cluster club for competition

2001 - Cheshire population census

2001 - Men added to Cheshire Ladies AC & renamed as Cheshire Tigers

2001 - Cheshire Web-site, CheshireAA.com launched as part of CCAA development plan

2002 - Crewe track re-laid and turned around

1987- Ellesmere port RC formed (formally known as Rivacre Runners & Joggers)

2002 - George Bunner, CCAA President awarded MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for contribution to athletics

2003 - Sandbach striders and strollers formed

2003 - Road race grand prix competition started

2005 - 6 lane track built at Stanney Oaks, Ellesmere Port

2006 - Cheshire Cross Country League merged with Manchester & District and NW Womens Cross Country League to form Manchester area Cross Country League

2007 - 6 lane track built in Widnes
